1279 - Live and Let Die, Iranian Style

I was young and my heart was an empty book!

I used to write in there, live and let live,
You know I did, You know I did, you know I did...

But then came problems!

So Live and let die!

Special Thanks to Paul McCartney and Hafiz

1106 - The Infamous Riot (St. Louise)

20th Anniversary of the (in)famous (?!) riot at Guns n' Roses Show in St. Louise!

***

Hey...

Hey...

Stop That!

Hey Stop That!

...

...

Dammit I'll it myself

Thanks to the lame ass Security, I'm going Home!

"St. Louise Sucks"

Well, following is the memories and recalls of who were at the "Infamous" Riot Show of Guns n' Roses in st. Louise. Some of my new American friends, which lived their 20's in that Era. Something I would be envious for! The whole note was brought up on Facebook, and it’s original, but names and any other personal references are removed due to privacy of their respective selves.

K: tomorrow it will have been 20 years since the GNR riot. TWENTY FRIGGIN YEARS! That is longer ago than I was old at the time!!!! Holy crap that knowledge is beyond painful! I’ve seen a shit ton of concerts since with a lot of mayhem, been tear gassed and even broke bones but never since, nor likely ever, will a concert be as epic as this one was. 20 YEARS….seriously, how the hell…

M: Wow....20 years....that was a show i will never forget, [...] and I were on our first concert date, sitting in the seats, and he was tripping. He was like, we have to get you outta here, he had met my dad that nite for the first time....and i was like OH HELL NO.... I'm watching this, if you wanna leave, go, I'll find a ride home....hahaha!!!!

K: we weren't leaving for ANYTHING! We walked ourselves out at the very end after the SWAT team was there and it had mostly died down. I'd rather have stayed for the excitement than risk getting slaughtered in the dash to try to get outta that parking lot of freaked out people during a massive traffic clusterfuck! And MAN what a great first date story!!!!

M: Pretty funny huh....we musta sat in traffic for 3 hours...i remember all the trees uprooted and chairbacks flying, and people hanging from the gig screens....guys walking out with Slash's Amp.....and the piano being rolled off the stage...into the pit...the firemen squirting the people, and the poor employees riping off their shirts, as not to be noticed as employees....ya, that was good times there...

T: remember watching a friend of mine walking across the stage on the news coverage. Ahh the good ole days. Yes time FLIES!!!!

I may actually ask / interview them for this so... (but sure you know you can't trust me on this!)

1099 - Guns N' Roses Live Abu Dhabi Review - Part 1

Note: This is a review of an outdated event, yet I still managed to share it anyway.

Had blown away back in 2008, by meeting Slash, Duff McKagen, Matt Sorum, and witnessing their charismatic Rock n' Roll-ish ego, followed by an amazing real rock n' Roll show by the true and best of it's stars via a supergroup called Velvet Revolver, and well, one thing leading to another which in this case it was "Slash" and as a result Guns n' Roses, which actually made me finally become a fan of one thing by all means in my entire life, I was really looking forward to this show, as if it's the second half of my Guns n' Roses Quest, no matter what!

December 16th, 2010, It's been nearly 2 years, and I knew it would be someplace in the region, but I couldn't tell for sure that on such day "Abu Dhabi", was actually going to become my very own "Paradise City"! I had my VIP tickets booked on the very first hours that the show was announced on Thinkflash website, Considering the fact that living in Iran -one of the major dead ends of the world- which you don't even have access to Credit Cards whatsoever, well, that explains a lot of things! Besides, the show was in Abu Dhabi so I also had to find a reasonable and affordable transport to manage to get to Yas Island since I would be staying in Dubai and all my friends were out of UAE by the time or were too busy to attend, and I wasn't going to take an Iranian -even a family member or a friend- as my companion even if it was a free ride, because I really wanted to party my very own way, even if it has to be alone and by my self.

I can still it feel let alone remembering it to say that, It was only a few days left to the show and all you could hear on music radio stations all around Dubai was "Sweet Child O'Mine", "Paradise City" and short talk shows about the concert every single time you would take a ride in a car, like you didn't need to put your music player to put more to the excitement!

Had Bought a pair of jeans, a couple of hours just before the show, And a bikers Leather Jacket on a Rolling Stones Black Tee, and summed them up with my long curly hair, I was surely going to take the empty place of "Slash" in a way, anyway!
That said, Holding the Bus tickets from Dubai to Yas Island (the Venue), from Jumeirah Beach Residence which is more of a classy and modern neighbors of Dubai in which by that I want to point out that you don't see major displays of Rock n' Roll-ish outfits and lifestyles at least comparing to how I was looking on that day: a Rock N' Roll outlaw!

Had such a tiring day, I had to take a big cup of Starbucks to keep up staying awake and wise. Although I knew it was going to affect the effectiveness of Alcohol euphoria an hour later in the venue. I finally got on the bus, sitting by myself, thinking: IT IS HAPPENING!

Later on the bus ride, two girls sitting on a row beside me, one of them looked at me and asked about my hair, if it was real and since it was, how long have I hadn't cut it. Now you Iranians can call me a Racist if you want, for not getting offended by the typical question they asked since she was a Palestinian along with her British friend! and we chat during the ride. Later on, knowing it would be a long shot since she was wearing a "casual street outfit" with "pair of sandals" for a "Rock Concert" (!) I asked if they had VIP tickets and she end up joking herself: "Do I even look like a Guns n' Roses Fan?!"

Finally Arrived at the Venue, with a crowd of "interesting and known type of people" walking to the show, which was actually my very first one act show, since I had always taken that much expense and effort to attend at least 2-day Festivals prior to that. It was fun from the very first minute: firstly, there were strict rules about cameras so I had to have my camera checked before standing in a line to enter. a black sweet guy was announcing people with a loudspeaker in his hand to do the check and when I asked him about my camera, he started talking to me introducing me to the crowd with whatever funny joking of his and apparently interviewing me as if I am "Slash" and whether I am going to perform that night or I have kissed and made up with Axl Rose which turned out something totally funny!!

When I entered, I was being looked at, hi 5-ed, greeted, praised, called "Slash" as if they were all my own friends who has nicknamed me "Slash" for the whole background thing! and I totally felt I was among thousands of potential friends! Girls surrounding me, taking pictures with me, offering me Beer, Cigarettes, even on one point one girl giving me her T shirt!, it was one hell of a welcome to the jungle! Haha! I was walking around the venue, enjoying every step that I was taking, putting a cigarette in my mouth, mimicking Slash for the hell of it, giving out positive energy and receiving the same great feedback from the coolest friendly ones available, people who could be my companions through the night and maybe even later as friends!

On one hand, It was such a disappointment that there were no official Merchandise for sale, but on the other hand, there were two big stands for Alcoholic Drinks: one only for Beer, and the other... Heaven!!! Nobody was given a drink permit wrist band at entrance so a guard would decide at the entrance of every line whether you were over 21 or not. and when it came to me, not only the big guy could tell I'm eligible to have a drink, but I bet he could also tell that I'm going for a double shot of Jack n' Coke!! I went there and ordered Vodka and some juice since I didn't expect them much, (due to what I had experienced before) but when I saw the variety of available drinks, I was amazed and totally felt scored when I saw the mighty Jack Daniels bottle, which I had already been drinking every night since I had arrived. First I ordered a single shot, went double, straight, and the eyes of bartender popped, but then I chose to mix it up a coke, playing a bit cautious, not to ruin the night by forgetting where I was or vomiting.

Well, that cautious play actually didn't work out and apparently I had my drinks and got drunk right from the opening act, in a way that this time I was the one who was asking ladies to take pictures with and now looking at some of the pictures, I could tell the jealous face of their partners !, not to mention in one occasion an old woman rejected me! though It was not only about ladies, it was about hanging out and having fun with people. making the best of it.

The opening act was "Juliana Down", which I had previously seen before back in Desert Rock Festival 2008. They had gone through a couple of changes and well, it was for good I guess, since they did put up a good show and showed that they have evolved to a professional band which makes me to say, they were a good choice for an opening act from local bands. I later had a chance to meet with the lead singer a few minutes later by a chance, which seems to have become my thing on festivals! and had a little chit chat.

Fond and excited, put up to that by crowds feedback who were saying I should be on stage and having my gear and guitar ready, and the rush of Jack n' coke which had already kicked in smoothly, I was trying to find a good spot for me as close as possible to the stage. So by Interacting with people around me, I got lucky and got as close as I could get until I couldn't go further than a bunch of Arab boys and girls, who would act totally furious toward anybody around them, by even a little push, insulting unbelievably rude and ugly, which was rather shocking than surprising, so I managed to play it cool!

That said, I must admit that I had never been to a concert which it divides crowd, so holding a VIP ticket was an advantage. I found myself amount the real Guns n' Roses fans, just there for the show, and since It was a classic "Band" or better saying these days a "CLASSIC NAME" (!), and/or simply teenagers couldn't afford Golden Circle tickets, The Crowd were 25 and above which made it awesome. An Adult atmosphere, which I had previously witnessed only during "Robert Plant (of Led Zeppelin) and The strange Sensation" Show and the Fans of 70's Rock Era.

I along with a large number of people around me were expecting Mr. William Axl Rose and his band to possibly show up a few hours late, but the show started at a reasonable time after the opening act's set with no delay at all.

Until suddenly all the lights went off and crowd started to cheer...

961 - "The Last Living Slut: Born in Iran, Bred Backstage, Rock Stars" Book Review

(The notes in bold are references from the websites that has been mentioned below.)

There was a time when I used to think that I was the only Iranian who shook hands with that blond and bored by the busy atmosphere around him, and was talked with like an Iranian Fan of him, or that funny and laughing man with that cap which there was a F-U-C-K written on it giving autographs, or that famous Icon with curly long hair with that top hat and Gitanes cigarettes, who was calm and quiet and friendly, who I put my arm around him and we took a nice picture and I was given an advice in playing guitar by, And I got his autograph on a poster and his Autobiography book... yeah I'm talking about Duff McKagen, Matt Sorum and Slash, Former and original members of Guns n' Roses and now Velvet Revolver!
Well, It's not like that anymore today! As there is a book out today which is the diaries of an Iranian slut named Roxana Shirazi, who writes about her sexual relationships with rock stars from bands like Guns n' Roses, Velvet Revolver, Papa Roach, Motley Crue and etc... A Book titled: ""The Last Living Slut: Born in Iran, Bred Backstage." It is told that several editors and agents passed on her manuscript for fear of a fatwa - the Islamic death sentence that once put "Satanic Verses" author Salman Rushdie in fear of his life. though Shirazi says that "I haven't attacked Islam itself," "But they probably don't think I should be writing about doing sex during my Koran classes."
Her later rock debauchery is so explicit as to make Pamela Des Barres' famous "I'm With the Band" read "like a nun's diary," the book warns. A Stripper who amused the crowd alongside with Axel Roses on stage according to "Reckless Road" book.
One of other controversial aspects of the book is the photos of a naked Shirazi, and another of her dressed in a traditional chador while making an obscene gesture with her fingers and tongue. Something that would cost her life if she ever comes back to motherland!
"I was always more into Nikki Sixx," she says. "But when we went to dinner, I found him a little dull. He talked about his gardening."
She never found Skid Row's Sebastian Bach that hot, but that didn't prevent her from giving him, shall we say, an all-access pass. But she was mortified when Axl Rose walked in on them. Rose's band mate Dizzy Reed comes off the worst. Shirazi contends that the keyboardist "was childish and dorky in his seduction" but she eventually found him remarkably sensitive by heavy-metal standards. When she told Reed she was pregnant, she says, he encouraged her to have an abortion and began bombarding her with cruel texts. "I hope you go through more abortions, to be honest ... have a wonderful time aborting your children, you piece of s—," he said in one, according to Shirazi, who says she still has his messages.
I wonder what she means by "Cruel" when you have chose to live as a slut! I mean, when you're living your life as a prostitute, everything is cruel in it's best. When you sell yourself slightly, You are bought cheap!

Personally, her relationship with the band members is not something that would be comparable with my own experience. Again, unlike my memorable, and fun time with the mentioned band members and witnessing a part of their lifestyle in general and from totally different aspects, - which I can end up writing an article about the departure of Scott Weiland from Velvet Revolver - , writing such things like she did is not something to be proud of which On one hand, This would decline the book as a favorite book of a bunch of groupies, as some boys might not find it that special: how good some rock stars are in bed!!! but on the other hand, the fact that the writers of the book are Neil Strauss and Anthony Bozza might make you wanna reconsider! Bozza that in my opinion did something great with "Slash's Autobiography", a book which makes it special because unlike most of the books out there, you don't feel like the writer is jerking off to your face with exaggerated stories and exotic recalls of some moments that he was expected to be too high to remember any detail of it!

I don't remember that I had read about some Iranian Girl in Slash's Autobiography book nor in the "Reckless Road - Guns n' Roses and the making of appetite for destruction", but let me point out something that wasn't mentioned in any of the blogs and websites I checked, which is the case of Nikki Sixx and the "The Heroin Diaries Soundtrack" Album. which includes a song "Girl with golden eyes" that Starts with: "She Speaks tome in Persian, tells me that she loves me, girl with golden eyes...". Well, we all know persian is a type of Heroin and also golden is related to Heroin according to his book, but Can this be a metaphor as well? Is it something like a coincidence or can be more to that? This is one thing that would make you wanna pursue it by reading the book interestingly!

Though there is one last problem, as it is for Iranian reader, It might not be that hard to find somebody to send that to you, but the thing is after being checked by US mail and again Iran's Postal service, is there any chance left for you to get your hands on it? Will it get lost somewhere in the middle of the process or at the best, the pictures will be ruined with a black marker? This is a question that the answer is obvious to a great extent! Something that makes it as one of those times when you say: Fuck politics, and Fuck politicians, and Fuck all those red lines they have always drawn on planet earth... And then you go hit the Guns n' Roses CDs!
